Perky Lash review: I tried LED lash extensions for the first time – here’s why it is a gamechanger for sensitive eyes

For those who covet a fuss-free beauty routine, the case for eyelash extensions in Singapore is clear. Think gorgeous lashes that stay intact for a good three to four weeks, and require little to no maintenance. But for the ladies with sensitive eyes, there’s a trade-off: the inevitable discomfort. What if there’s an alternative that is gentler on the eyes but still delivers on the beauty front? Bring on the LED lash extensions services from Perky Lash.

LED lash extensions use a modern application technique with minimal fumes, touted to have a lower chance of eye irritation, reduced downtime and better retention. I booked an appointment at Perky Lash to see if it stands up to what it promises.

The TL;DR on LED lashes

Think of LED lashes as the premium upgrade for typical lash extensions. Similar to how gel polish is cured under UV or LED light, a low-intensity LED light aims directly at your lashes and bonds extension fibres to your natural eyelashes within a few seconds.

Compared to standard lash adhesives where you have to wait for the glue to dry naturally, the LED lash technology offers a more efficient application process. Plus, it minimises the use of glue fumes and reduces irritation to the eyes.

Thanks to the instant polymerisation, the extensions are instantly bonded to your natural lashes and good to go. This means you can skip the hassle of keeping your lashes dry for at least 24 to 48 hours. Want to clock a workout, go for a run or have a shower after? Not an issue at all!

Pampering my peepers at Perky Lash

Said to be a more gentle, comfortable and efficient process, I was excited to visit Perky Lash’s One Raffles Place outlet for a mid-week perk-me-up. Situated in the heart of the CBD, this location draws the office crowd for its easy convenience.

I would say it doesn’t feel as cosy as home salons or standalone beauty salons I’ve visited. That said, the pink-hued walls and furniture brightened up the space, and there were four comfy lash beds that were sufficiently spaced out.

After choosing my lash design – I went with my usual YY lash with a D-shaped curl – the lash technician started to work her magic. While I braced myself for any initial discomfort, the entire process felt very comfortable, apart from a slight heated sensation during the LED curing process. But I felt like I was in good hands as  a protective patch was placed to protect my eyelids.

This was one of the few lash extension sessions where I could comfortably doze off, without worrying about glue fumes seeping under my eyelids. The entire process took about 80 minutes (slightly shorter than the promised 1.5 hours), and I happily woke up with zero redness, dryness and irritation in my eyes. Oh, and a gorgeous new set of lashes!

Hello, fuss-free lash upgrades

Besides having minimal downtime, the staff shared that better retention is another key perk of LED lash extensions. These lashes tend to last longer – between six and eight weeks – as opposed to regular extensions that start to drop from the three-week mark.

Personally, I’ve noticed that my lashes have been holding up better than usual. Two weeks on, it can still pass off as a fresh set with barely any fallout.

While some may hesitate due to the steeper price of LED lash extensions, I see the $50 top-up as a worthy investment for those with sensitive eyes or value convenience. As someone who works out regularly, I am all for the extra durability that can withstand sweaty gym sessions and runs.

My verdict? LED lash extensions will be a new rotation in my beauty routine, especially for busier periods when I need the confidence that my lashes will comfortably stay intact.
